Abstract:
Background: Personnel radiation monitoring equipment monitors the level of exposure to radiation and personnel will have to wear a personnel device for radiation detection while working. Various studies have shown different results concerning monitoring devices among medical imaging students. Some indicating good practices and attitudes about Personnel radiation monitoring devices while some being opposite to this. What is the practice and attitude pf personnel radiation monitoring devices among Medical Imaging Students at CUHAS?
Method: The cross-sectional study was conducted at CUHAS-Bugando, Mwanza from June 2023 to July 2023 with a sample size of 205. Data was collected from completed questionnaires, entered in Microsoft Excel, coded and then analysed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 27 for data analysis.
Results/Discussion: 91 female respondents (44.4%) and 114 male respondents (55.6%) were recruited. The study results show that only 4 participants (2.0%) had good practice towards personnel radiation monitoring devices, 43 participants (21.0%) had moderate practice and majority 158 (77%) had poor practice. Positive attitude was 60% and negative attitude was 40% towards Personnel radiation monitoring devices.
Conclusion: The overall practice was very poor by 77%; average (moderate) by 21% and good by 2.0%. This is not encouraging implying that further interventions are needed. Attitude was positive by 60% and negative by 40%. It is concluded that there is poor practice and positive attitude level about personnel radiation monitoring devices among Medical Imaging Students at CUHAS.
