Abstract:
Background: Obstetric ultrasound is the method for detecting intrauterine fetal complications during antenatal care (ANC). The WHO reported 25% of maternal deaths were due to bleeding, and 8% were caused by obstructed labor. In utilization of obstetric scan to prevent complication among antenatal clinic (ANC) women are found only to be 59%. A study was designed at Sekou-Toure Regional hospital to evaluate pregnant women's knowledge, attitudes, and utilization of obstetric scan to prevent complication among antenatal clinic (ANC).
Objective: To determine knowledge, attitude and practice of pregnant women towards obstetric ultrasound attending antenatal care (ANC) at Sekou-Toure regional hospital, Mwanza, Tanzania.
Methods: Study design was be descriptive cross-sectional study conducted at Sekou Toure Regional Referral over a period of 2 months from May 12, 2023 to July 12, 2023. Data was entered in Microsoft excel version 2016 and then exported to Statistical Package for Social Sciences software (SPSS version 20.0) for further analysis and were be presented as percentages and illustrated using graphs and charts.
Results: The respondent were mostly of the age between 26 to 30 years (44.2%). knowledge and attitude towards obstetric ultrasound were at 71.6% and 65% respectively. The practice was poor at 34.2%. Due to some factors like higher cost, no privacy, long time of waiting.
Conclusion: The result findings showed a good level of knowledge and positive attitude. However, the practice is poor.
Recommendations: Since obstetric ultrasound is used in antenatal care in assessing baby and maternal mother, hence strong policies should be employed in our country to prevent the pregnant women who escape the done an ultrasound, health care provider should be make the clear hospital environment for scanning, Government should be funds pregnant women in order to affording the cost during pregnancy Also, I recommend for regular check-ups for pregnant women at least once for each trimester
