Abstract:
Background: Poor accessibility emergency obstetric care attributed by ineffective referral system contributes to severe morbidity and high maternal mortality in developing countries. Worldwide 287,000 women die because of complications arising due to pregnancy and childbirth, whereby Sub-Saharan Africa accounts for about half of these death. Estimates shows that 1 5% of all pregnant women develop pregnancy and childbirth related complications, which require access to advanced care.
Objective: The study will determine major reasons, the prevalence and the outcome of high-risk obstetric case referred to Bugando medical center for advanced obstetric management and care services.
Methodology: The study was retrospective study design; where by the sample size of 1 53 records out of 1 66 of all high-risk referral obstetric cases from January to June 2021 where Obtained .The obtained data was analyzed using SPSS version 20 for report writing.
Results: Findings will inform hospital management teams to formulate and prioritize strategies to improve referral practice by strengthening the implementation of the referral Guideline. In addition, findings from the study will help to provide up to date information for researchers, which can be used as base for further studies on issues concerning obstetric referral.
