Abstract:

Background: The quality of prenatal care is preventive health care that improves the health outcomes of women and infants. There are some pregnant women with knowledge of antenatal care and its importance however there are women who do not attend the antenatal clinic visits and end up with poor outcome.
Also there have been doubts on the quality of care given during the antenatal clinic visits and therefore A comprehensive questionnaire can be used to assess the quality of prenatal care as well as the knowledge of pregnant women on the antenatal care.

Objective: To assess Knowledge and quality of focused antenatal care and it’s associated factors among pregnant Women at (SENGEREMA) MWANZA .

Methodology: This was a cross sectional study conducted from February 2022 at Sengerema involving pregnant women attending clinic at Sengerema district hospital. Data was obtained by simple random sampling technique where questionnaires were distributed randomly to obtain representative group of women attending antenatal care and analyzed by SPSS.

Results: The proportion of pregnant women with knowledge of importance of focused antenatal care is 97% followed by their understanding and their willingness to participate in all visits as scheduled and quality of antenatal care generally being 66% showed to be satisfied with the service during the visits.
 
Conclusion: This study revealed that a significant number of pregnant women out of the sampled population have the knowledge on antenatal care on the impact it has for the future health. However the quality of service has to be improved for the sake of well-being of both the mother and unborn baby.
