Assessment of the Factors, which hinder the use of modern contraceptive methods among women of reproductive age in Nyamagana District, Mwanza, Tanzania

This study aim to assess different factors which under the usage of modern contraceptive methods among women of reproductive age attending RCH clinic at Nyamagana Hospital Mwanza. Methodology: this was a cross sectional study that was conducted at Nyamagana Hospital with reproductive aged women who were attending RCH clinic by interviewing them using structured questionnaires in Swahili version, fill in the questionnaires, then transferred them to the SPSS computer program where analysis was done. Results: the mention many factors which hinder them on modern contraceptive methods usage, among 206 women interviewed 87(42.2%) they said it is costly, 82(39.8%) has side effects, 85(41.3%) against their culture, 87(42.2%) due to low awareness, 56(27.2%) against their region, 69(33.5%) due to side effects from previous methods. Conclusion: there are many different factors which hinder usage of modern contraceptive such as cultural, cost, religion, awareness so there is a need for community education and awareness among reproductive aged women at large as this would increase positive attitude and usage.
