Abstract:
Background: Inappropriate use of medicine Paracetamol tablets, aspirin as well as diclopar in cleaning electrical iron has become a major challenge in community. Poor education accessibility of drugs at home as well as lack of the best method for their needs have contributed to this phenomenon.
Methodology: A cross section study conducted from June to July 2020, involved residents of Nyamagana district who were using electrical iron. Data were collected using a structured interview questionnaire and entered in Microsoft excel and analyzed by using SPSS version 20 where by proportion and associated were established by using chi-square test.
Results and Discussion: The proportion of people who are using medicine (tablets) in cleaning iron was 67.9% while 32.1% were using other methods such as chalk and toothpaste. Also, the reasons which trigger the uses of drugs in cleaning were such as, it is a familiar method, easy to practice as well as it removes dirty quickly. In case of awareness on the negative impact associated with the practice, majority claimed that the method is safe because they have experienced nothing regarding health complications.
Conclusion: Majority of residents are using medicine for cleaning of electrical iron and they are not aware and worry on the negative impacts of using tablets in cleaning electrical iron. However, there is no clear directions of cleaning it.
