It is found on the shore of lake Victoria in western part of Tanzania. As per 2012, the region was estimated to have a total population of around 2.772,509 people. The region is administratively divided into seven districts namely, Illemela, Kwimba, Magu, Misungwi, Nyamagana and Ukerewe. My study was conducted at Sekou Toure Regional Hospital which is located in Illemela district which is bordered to north and west by Lake Victoria, to eat by Magu district and to the south by Nyamagana district. The district is estimated to have a total population of 343,001 as per 2012. Sekou Toure regional hospital is a public hospital. It was inaugurated by his excellence the late president of Guinea Bissau Sekou Toure as Health Centre in 1968 and in 1994 it began to function as regional hospital serving the population of Mwanza region. The hospital has a capacity of 400 beds. This includes all 4 department which are obstetrics and Gynecology department, surgery department, internal medicine department and pediatrics department. The hospital is estimated to provide services to around 36,000 clients per year. General Objective: To acquire knowledge and skills on perioperative management of patients undergoing cesarean section. Specific objectives: To know preoperative preparation of the patients To know anesthesia and pain relief used To know patients care in the operating room To know postoperative care of patients Rationale of the field attachment: Cesarean section is one among the key interventions of major complications that rise during pregnancy and delivery. The field attachment work will enable me to gain knowledge and acquire skills on perioperative management of patients undergoing cesarean section hence help lower maternal mortality rate and improve the outcome of patients that I will be treating during my practice as a medical doctor.
