Awareness, Attitudes and Preventive Practices on Diabetics Related Complication Among Diabetes Mellitus Patients Attending at Bugando Medical Centre.

This problem is preventable if appropriate measure are taken early. Socio-economic consequences of this problem are significant especially in developing countries, since the treatment of diabetes mellitus is expensive and requires close monitoring. In fact, the management of diabetes mellitus is much more successful when the public health measures such as screening and health education aimed at raising diabetic awareness are effectively undertaken. Generally, prompt management of any ocular problem identified help to reduce the burden of complications among diabetes, and yet its morbidity. To improve awareness, attitudes and practices will patients to regain productivity and increasing their life expectancy. Methodology: A cross sectional enrolled 288 of the patients who were eligible for the study. Their demographic data, prevalence, knowledge and attitudes was assessed by using a standardized questionnaire. Objective: To determine the awareness, attitudes and preventive of diabetics related complications among diabetes mellitus patients attending at Bugando Medical Centre. Results: The study has shown the knowledge score, attitude and practices have improved significantly indicating that the Diabetics clinics and session which are provided are helpful to the community as for high knowledge level being 85.8% (247), moderate level knowledge 12.8% (37) and low level of knowledge 1.4% (4), participants with good attitudes score 60%-79% were 79.5% (229), followed by poor attitudes 13.9% (40) and best attitudes of 6.6% (19). Scored more than 80% being 82.6% (238), poor practices of 11.1% (32), and good practices of 6.3% (18). Who know can cause eye problems 42.7% (123), feet 31.9% (92), kidney 3.5% (10), heart 0.3% (1) and 21.5% (62) they didn’t know that DM can cause complication to those diagnosed with DM
