There are various approaches to treating esophageal cancer, however due to diagnosis at a late stage treatment often has a palliative aim to control the main symptom which is dysphagia. Objective: The present study attachment aims to explore various treatment modalities employed in treating esophageal cancer as well as the clinic-pathological patterns of patients with esophageal cancer presenting at Bugando Medical Centre. Methodology: This clinical attachment was conducted at Bugando Medical Centre and it included all patients with esophageal cancer regardless of age. Duties performed included attending the outpatient clinic, ward round participating in decision making on the modes pf treatment to be accorded to patients and assisting in various surgical procedures performed on patients with esophageal cancer.

Background: Esophageal cancer is the sixth most common cause of cancer deaths, it is diagnosed at a late stage, and thus it is a devastating diseases associated with severe morbidity and poor prognosis.
