Concern about (1) polypharmacy include increased adverse drug reactions, drug-drug interactions, prescribing cascade and higher costs, it is often associated with decreased quality of life, decreased mobility and cognition. The purpose of this study is to assess the prevalence of DDIs and Polypharmacy at BMC. Objective of the study: To assess the prevalence of drug-drug interaction and polypharmacy at Bugando medical centre. Knowing the prevalence will help medical practitioners to find the safe was of prescribing drug to their patients without affecting them through drug-drug interaction and polypharmacy. (Practicing safe prescription and dispensing to avoid potential drug-drug interaction to patients). Methodology: It is Retrospective cross sectional study, will involve investigation of prescription which was prescribed from 1st March 2014 to 1st May 2014. Results: 55.7% of prescriptions analyzed have no polypharmacy and Drug-drug interactions while 44.3% of prescriptions analyzed were found to have polypharmacy and drug-drug interactions. The prevalence of drug-drug interactions and polypharmacy at BMC in 44.3%. Conclusion: Practice of drug-drug interactions in Bugando medical centre is there, the intervention is needed. Most of polypharmacy appeared were of adult cough syrup, Paracetamol and antihistamine, in which adult cough syrup contain Paracetamol and antihistamine. From this study, polypharmacy have seen not to have influence in Drug-drug interactions.
