Abstract:
Background: Heart failure public health problem worldwide. About more than 20 million total global people living with heart failure with different classes with 78% global mortality, 86% of mortality and morbidity from CVD occur in developing countries.
This study to identify various socioeconomic and health related factors which help in identifying the causes and pattern of decompensate heart failure in patients admitted at Bugando medical centre.
Objective: To determine causes and pattern of decompensate heart failure in patients admitted at Bugando medical centre.
Methodology: This study conducted was cross sectional on causes and pattern of decompensate heart failure at Bugando medical centre in Mwanza region with average area size of 9467 km and population of 2.773 million according to the data of 2012.
Conclusion: The study has shown that the common of CCF being non-adherence to medication as most of patient reported on having poor financial capacity to afford dugs during all course of treatment. On the side of pattern of disease palpitation, orthopnea and ankle swelling was the common symptoms, ankle edema, crepitation and displaced apex beat being the common signs of heart failure, cardiomegaly being the commonest finding in CXR, sinus tachycardia on ECG, and DCM on Echo. Common risk factors are being unaware of health condition that may exacerbate the decompensation such as HTN and DM, usage of alcohol as well as local herbs intake. Lastly the study showed good awareness of dietary intake to the patients as they have been receiving advice on important health diet and know what they should limit themselves from taking in from health workers.
