Estrogen and progestin are two female sex hormones. Combination of estrogen and progestin works by preventing ovulation. They also change the lining uterus to prevent pregnancy from developing and change the mucus at the services to prevent sperm from entering. Oral contraceptives are a very effective method of birth control, but they do not prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. They are of two kinds; the combined oral contraceptive pills and the progesterone-only pill. Objectives: The study sought to assess the availability and magnitude of sale of oral contraceptive pills in the community/private pharmacies. Methodology: Retrospective study of sale of oral contraceptive pills only shall be carried out. The study shall be conducted within a period of one month from 12th May to 09th June 2016. The estimation of the sample size shall be based on Yamane Taro with the standard error of 0.05 to be assumed. Results: Of 58 private pharmacies surveyed, three brands of oral contraceptive pills were available namely flexi p, familia pills and Microgynon.
