A total of 245 files of the patients were included in the study. The awareness towards risk factors was 95 (75.2%) and towards chronic complications of diabetes mellitus was 77 (64.2%) The study has revealed knowledge about causes of chronic complications of diabetic’s mellitus to be low compared to other places of study. Therefore health education to the patients about the risk factors to develop chronic complication is the foremost strategy toward raising the awareness.

Abstract:

This study determined awareness and perception on prevalence of chronic complications of diabetes mellitus among diabetic patients admitted at Bugando medical centre in 2014.

A total of 245 files of the patients were included in the study. The awareness towards risk factors was 95 (75.2%) and towards chronic complications of diabetes mellitus was 77 (64.2%)

The study has revealed knowledge about causes of chronic complications of diabetic’s mellitus to be low compared to other places of study.

Therefore health education to the patients about the risk factors to develop chronic complication is the foremost strategy toward raising the awareness.
