Abstract:

Background: The emerging role of ICT has created a huge impact on healthcare. It enhances the quality of care, increases the patient security and data protection and reduces operating & administrative cost. The telecommunication devices are more user friendly & used by a huge population around the world which have reduced the communication gap to a zero level.

Methodology: A cross sectional study conducted in Dodoma among community pharmacies through semi structured questionnaire form which dispensers who participated in the study filled the prepared questions. Data was analysed using SPSS application version 20.

Results: Among 70 community pharmacies 39 (81.4%) were fitted with computer systems in which 74.3% of the computers were effectively working. The influencing factors for using ICT in community pharmacies were for medical literature 98% aid in dispensing. Also, ICT was used in documentation of sales (100%), stock (100%) and patient record (47.1%).

Conclusion: The ICT tool used for running of pharmaceutical activities was computer and documentation and dispensing were factors that influenced the use of ICT.
