Tropical corticosteroids have abundant benefits but if abused result to severe consequences. One among the reason of misuse of tropical corticosteroids is the treatment of acne. Objectives: The main objective of the study was to determine prevalence, pattern and reasons for use of tropical corticosteroids among undergraduate students at Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences Mwanza Tanzania. Methodology: Institutional based, cross-sectional study design was carried out among undergraduate students at Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences. Self-administered questionnaires were distributed to the students, and they were allowed to participate willingly after reading and undergraduate the consent form. Obtained data were entered in Microsoft excel for cleaning, then transferred to STATA for analysis. Results: More than half of the sample populations 180 (53.73%) confess on the use of topical corticosteroids. The most used steroid was betamethasone cream 96 (53.93%) the main reason leading to the use of tropical corticosteroid was treatment of acne whereby 80 (43.24%) students used steroids for treatment of acne. Conclusion: Topical corticosteroids are highly misused drugs, with high over the counter sales its advised drug authority to take appropriate action upon their unethical use, and more knowledge to be given on the adverse effects associated with misuse of steroids.
