Abstract:

Background: Pelvic fracture is not frequently encountered in our setting. However, the fracture is associated with high mortality due to associated bleeding. Teh common cause being high energy injuries such as motor traffic crashes. A pelvic radiograph is a cheap method for identification of pattern of those fracture for further and immediate management planning.

Objectives: To determine prevalence and pattern of pelvic fracture among orthopedic patients at BMC

Methodology: Study was retrospective cross sectional study which involve 115 files of patients at BMC ward from June to October 2019. All patients file with PXR report, pattern of those fractures were documented and analyzed by computer program SPSS version 17 software.

Results: Prevalence of pelvic fracture at BMC was 10% and the most pattern was tiles classification B by 45.4%, followed by A by 34.6% and lastly C by 18.2%.

Discussion: This study is different to a study done at MNH in 2018, where prevalence was 20% annually study done at Muhimbili national hospital in Tanzania shows a common pattern of pelvic fracture was tile classification type B by 47.2%, type C was a second common pattern by 27% and, type A was 22.2%.
