CS is usually performed when vaginal delivery will put the mother or child’s health of life at risk. In recent years, number of number of CS has risen worldwide. Since CS also involves risk for adverse outcome for both mother child, concern has been expressed regarding its increased use. Objectives: The main aim of this study was to determine the prevalence, indications and outcomes of CS at Bugando medical centre in Mwanza, Tanzania. Methodology: The study was retrospective cross sectional study hospital based involves a review of the hospital records of women who had undergone CS in the period of study. Data was collected by using a structured questionnaire. The data obtained was entered and then analyzed using the statistical package for social science (SPSS) version 20. Results: The prevalence of cesarean section is 19.6%. The age of patients ranged between 15-42 years with a mean age of 27.12±5.1 years. The leading indications for cesarean birth were, previous Cs (44.9%), distress (32.2%), Cephalopelvic disproportion (CPD) (21.1%), big babies (11.9%), and antepartum hemorrhage (APH) (3.5%) accounting for 92.5% of the indications for cesarean section. Maternal indications constituted 62% where fetal indications accounted for 38%. ER -
