The current reference values which are used were set more than seven decades ago based on developed countries studies. Therefore, a cross sectional study was done 299 (204 male, 95 non-pregnant female) healthy volunteers from among Tanzanian students of Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences, with the main aim of determining casual BP profile. Socio-demographic and lifestyle data were collected using questionnaires. Systolic BP (SBP) and diastolic BP (DBP were measured using aneroid sphygmomanometer. Data were analysed using SPSS. The participants aged 19-43 years (mean, 23.4 ± 0.2 years). SBP ranged 82-150mmHg (mean, 115.7 ± 0.7 mmHg) and DBP ranged 44 – 100 mmHg (mean, 71.9 ± 0.6 mmHg). MAP ranged 63 – 113 mmHg with the mean of 86.5 ± 0.5 mmHg. Males had significantly higher BP than females; and BP was noticed to increase with increased age. Finally, I recommended people to check their blood pressure at least once in a year to avoid complications associated with high blood pressure which in most cases is asymptomatic. ER -
