In Tanzania herbal medicine has been practiced many years before invasion of colonization around 1880 years. However the extend of THM use is not known in most setting in sub Saharan Africa. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and factors associated with the use among gastritis and ulcer patients attending hospital in Mwanza city. The study was a descriptive cross sectional survey conducted in Mwanza city hospital and herbal clinics and herbalists and data was collected through interview of patients. A total of 155 ulcers and gastritis patients, men and women were recruited for the survey based on the established inclusion criteria and happened to be available to the centers on the days of interviews. Approximately, 55.5% constituted males and the largest number of participants (35.29%) were in the age blacked of 21-50 years. Most patients were Sukuma and many been reported to have been admitted for ulcer for more than year. Prevalence of co-current use of THM and convectional therapy obtained was 48%, CL (39.83-55.70). People in the community often utilize both traditional and convectional medicine when attempting to cure gastritis and ulcers. Patients seek different treatments based on what they believe will work for them in that in that moment. ER -
