Hypertension and its complications are among the top ten causes of admission in the medical ward at the Bugando Medical Centre (BMC). This could be due to adaptation to a new life style with numerous risk factors such as obesity, excessive salt intake, smoking and physical inactivity. A descriptive cross-sectional study hospital based will be done at Bugando Medical Centre in Nyamagana District.In the developed countries such as UK, promotion towards life style changes in orderto prevent hypertension and its complications has resulted in the decrease in incidence of hypertension and its complications. Thus, this study is designed to compare the knowledge on the risk factors of hypertension among the hypertensive patients between the two Districts and identify the measures which will be taken to educate the patients in both districts. Objectives: To assess the knowledge, attitude and practice towards the risk factors and complications of hypertension among the hypertensive patients. Methodology: The study will be conducted in Nyamagana District, it will be an hospital-based research. Expected outcome: The findings from this study will help the community to provide baseline information to appropriate authorities and other stakeholders to develop strategies on improving resources allocation into the health promotion activities, on causes, and whereabout on complication of hypertension and so reducing the challenges to services provision. Also, the study findings may give an assessment the opinions and perception towards hypertensive patients from Nyamagana District.

Abstract:

Background: Sub-Saharan Africa is particularly vulnerable to the growing global burden of hypertension, but epidemiological studies are limited and barriers to optimal management are poorly understood. Hypertension and its complications are among the top ten causes of admission in the medical ward at the Bugando Medical Centre (BMC).
