Abstract:
Background: Abortion is an important cause of maternal mortality and morbidity marked inTanzania.1 According to ministry of health and social welfare 16% of martenal death are due to complications from abortion.1 The study will help to find level of awareness and perception on complications abortion among secondary school girls age.
Methodology: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study which was conducted at Mwanza secondary school and Pamba secondary school from May 2024 to Sept 2024. The sample size was 384 involving secondary school girls aged from 18 to 25 years at these schools.
Results: The total of 384 participants were recruited with a median age of 17.1 years where 223(58.07%) had good awareness and 161(41.92%) had poor awareness. And for the perception it was categorized as positive and negative perception with median IQR of the study is 56 where 203(52.86%) have positive perception and 181(47.13%) had negative perception.
Conclusion: Secondary school girls have a good awareness and positive perception towards abortion complications
