Abstract:
Background: HPV infections are the most common sexually transmitted infections globally, the inadequate uptake of human papilloma virus vaccine among female secondary school students increases risk of cervical cancer.
Objective: To assess awareness, attitude and practice of human papilloma virus vaccine in primary school girls at Busega District council, Simiyu region.
Methodology: This was a cross- sectional study using multi-stage stratified random sampling technique that was conducted among Primary Schools in Busega district including 110 school aged children. Data was collected through structured questionnaire and then analysed by SPSS.
Results: Majority (72.22%) of the respondents had awareness about HPV vaccine and 73 (87.95%) had received the HPV vaccine by the time of the study.
Conclusion: In conclusion, the study findings are encouraging, ongoing efforts are necessary to promote HPV awareness and uptake among primary school girls, ultimately contributing to prevention of cervical cancer.
