Abstract:

Background: A cross sectional study to assess knowledge and practice of exclusive breastfeeding in Meru district.

It has been shown that in Tanzania, only 41% of infants are exclusively breastfed (TRCHS, 1999) so it is important to look for their understanding on EBF and why other do not practice.

A total of 230 women were interviewed. I use Swahili questionnaires to interview and collect data. The interviewed mothers were randomly selected from different dispensaries, health centers, and hospitals in Meru district. Data was analysed using SPSS software.

This study revealed the real situation on practice of exclusive breastfeeding and reasons for not practicing.
