Methods: This was a questionnaire hospital based survey, which was conducted in BMC, from June 2023 to August 2023. A 17 items semi-structured questionnaire were administered to 364 patients selected purposively based on the inclusion criteria using one-on-one method. Information on demographic variables of the respondents, awareness of ionizing radiation hazards, and perception of ionizing radiation were collected. The obtained data were analysed using descriptive statistics (SPSS 27). Results: Majority of the participants were females 194 (53.3%). Most of the participants, 292 (80.2%) did not have awareness of ionizing radiation. Only 144 (39.6%) knew that ionizing radiation is hazardous to health. Few numbers of the participants 90 (24.7%) were informed by the health expertise about the effects of ionizing radiation while 57 (15.6%) read about it. Larger number of the participants, 320 (87.9%) had no idea about the meaning of radiation protection. Most of the participants, 194 (53.3%) said they have seen the radiation warning sign before, but 88 (45.4%) only know the meaning of warning sign. Conclusion: This study revealed poor awareness of ionizing radiation hazard among patients. It is obvious that public education will contribute immensely in the promotion of awareness of the harmful effect of ionizing radiation and radiation protection measures.
