Malaria knowledge, attitude and acceptability of seasonal malaria chemoprevention among parents are caregivers having children under five years at Ilemela district in Mwanza

Method: A cross sectional prospective study was conducted from 20th July 21st August, 2023 in 384 participants of Ilemela district at Mwanza and person’s chi square test was used in comparing the proportions of the groups of respondents. Results: A total of 384 households were assessed, 316 (82.3%) were female and 68 (17.7%) were male. Most of these respondents were married 288 (75%) and most of them had an education level of secondary and higher 277 (72.1%). Of the respondent 384 (100%) reported mosquito bite as mode of transmission and 292 (76%) had fever which indicated high knowledge of malaria. Attitude against malaria was high because most of the respondent possess mosquito net 378 (98.4%) and know that best drug to treat malaria was ALU 354 (92.2%). The acceptability on Malaria chemoprevention was moderate because 226 (58.9%) of the respondent agreed that seasonal malaria chemoprevention is the effective way against prevention of malaria infections recommended by WHO.  Conclusion: The study population had a good level of knowledge about malaria intervention, good attitude towards malaria intervention and majority of these respondent were using treated mosquito bed nets."
