Abstract:
Background: Neonatal sepsis contributes significantly to neonatal mortality. This study was carried out to determine the prevalence and factors associated with neonatal sepsis in Sekou Toure Regional Referral Hospital Mwanza, Tanzania. Neonatal sepsis which occurred during the first 28 days of life, is estimated to cause 26% all neonatal deaths worldwide.
Methodology: A Hospital based cross-sectional study was conducted at Sekou Toure Regional Referral Hospital in Mwanza city, during September to December 2020. A standardized questionnaire was used to obtain demographic, obstetrics and clinical information. Diagnosis of neonatal sepsis was done clinically. Relationship between outcome variable and exposure variable was done using Chi square test.
Significance of the study: This study was come up with the magnitude of sepsis in neonates admitted at Sekou Toure hospital thus was enhance early diagnosis and treatment of newborn with clinical suspicion of sepsis and this was important strategy in preventing life threaten complication.
