Abstract:
Background: Family planning the applicable plan worldwide with the aim of controlling the rapid growing population of people in the world particularly in the advanced economic and low economic country; this save to maintain the population at the level which is easily for the country to provide basic requirement to the society such as education, shelter, water, food, health services and easily for the environment conservation.
Objective: The objective of the study was to assess the prevalence, awareness and determinants of family planning methods among women of reproductive age 15-49 years) in Bariadi district, Simiyu region.
Methods: A quantitative cross-section based study was conducted in Bariadi district Simiyu region, Tanzania, to assess prevalence and determinants of family planning methods among women of reproductive age (15-49 years).
Results: A total of 209 women were interviewed; a high proportional (50.7%) had age of range between 25 and 34 years and 48.8% of the study population had primary education. Most of them (36.9%) had very good level of knowledge about modern family planning methods. The prevalence of modern contraceptive methods use was found to be 44.1% and implants being the most method used socio-demographic characteristics of women were found to associate with modern family planning methods use and level of education of the women being the most important factor in the awareness concerning modern family planning methods use.
Conclusion: From the result findings it showed that there is increasing of awareness to modern family planning method but the prevalence is low. It is recommended that, more emphases should be done to educate women so as to increase the prevalence of modern family planning use and condom use should be promoted since it is cheap and easier to use and prevent sexually transmitted diseases including HIV.
