Availability of utilization of information Communication Technology (ICT) in community pharmacies in Mwanza City, Tanzania

In community pharmacies ICT has manifested itself in various aspect such documentation & records keeping, application software, medical literature/publications in soft copies and in websites. This aiding smooth running of pharmacy activities. Methodology: The cross sectional study was conducted in Nyamagana district, Mwanza. Study population involved 65 selected dispensers in selected community pharmacies. They were given questionnaire to fill and the data was analyzed using SPSS application version. 20 Results: Generally it has been observed that, there is underutilization and low availability of ICT aspects in community pharmacies in Nyamagana. About 78% of pharmacies had ICT tools and possessed management system software (9). This is facilitated pharmacy policies in their country. Another study conducted in India indicated there is improved health care delivery system because the health care professionals through ICT have find a better option to access relevant medical information this is contrary to my study whereby the health care providers in community pharmacies don’t get sample time to review medical literature and some of them perceive medical information on internet as misleading. Conclusion: There is underutilization of ICT in community pharmacies in Nyamagana district in Mwanza and also there is low availability of ICT tools in these community pharmacies.
