Associated factors for stroke among men aged 40 to 90 years admitted at Bugando Medical Centre from 2016 to 2019

These risk factors are blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol, physical inactivity, artery diseases, heart diseases, illegal drug use, excessive alcohol intake and prior history of stroke. Objective: Determining risk factors for stroke among men aged 40 to 90 years admitted at Bugando medical centre from 2016 to June 2019. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted at Bugando medical centre with 110 male patients aged 40 to 90 years. Data collected was entered and analyzed using IBM SPSS statistics 23 program. Results: A total of 110 of participants with mean age of 64.06. The leading causes were hypertension (59.1%), previous history of stroke (23.6%), 20, heart disease (20.9%), renal disease (15.5%), diabetes mellitus (12.7%), consumed alcohol (3.6%) and smoked cigarrate (1.8%). Also, those who died by the risk factors were; hypertension (23%), diabetes mellitus (21%), heart disease (30.1%), previous history of stroke (11%) and renal disease (4.9%). Conclusion and Recommendation: Stroke risk factors can be avoided when made aware campaigns should be created by the public health so as to spread the awareness of risk factors for stroke in order to reduce its burden in the society.
