Availability of Antiretroviral Formulations for Paediatric at Mbogwe District Health Facilities Geita Region Tanzania.

Broad Objective: To evaluate extent to availability of antiretroviral formulations for pediatric in health facilities at Mbogwe district. Setting: The study was conducted at the care and treatment centre (CTC) and pharmacy store in health facilities at Mbogwe district. Study design: Retrospective cross sectional study was conducted by checking the availability of antiretroviral drugs for paediatric. Methods: The study was conducted at the care and treatment centre (CTC) and pharmacy store in health facilities at Mbogwe District. Retrospective cross sectional study was conducted by checking the availability of antiretroviral drugs for paediatric. Results: A total of 12 health facilities were surveyed, where I health facility (8.33%) had 45% availability of different antiretroviral formulations drugs for paediatric, 6 health facilities (50%) had only 10% availability antiretroviral formulations drug for paediatric, 4 health facilities (33.33%) had 20% of drug availability and 1 health facility (8.33%) had drug availability 25%. Conclusion: The study shows all 12 health facilities found at Mbogwe districts has less than 50% of availability different antiretroviral formulations for paediatric which can be used by the clients. The health provider to used regime to give the Paediatrics for their treatment for broken the tables of which is not a proper treatment it increased irrational use of medications and also, Unavailability of antiretroviral formulations for Paediatrics increased poor adherence of use of ARV Paediatrics due to as when they attend the clinic they don’t get their drugs or they switching the regime, this contribute to poor attendance to the clinic.
