Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Motorcyclist on the Use of Drug that Impair Riding in Nyamagana District Mwanza.

Abstract:
Introduction: Riding is the psychomotor activities that require a combination of good visual and auditory function. Several factors can affect driver during driving like alcohol and medicine/drug. Any that central nervous system such as marijuana (cannabis). Cocaine, khant and medicine such as antihistamine and benzodiazepine has a potential effect for driver impairment.
Methodology: A cross-sectional was conducted in Nyamagana district Mwanza Tanzania. Study population was 384 commercial motorcyclist selected by convenient sampling from different parking. A structured questionnaire was used to obtain information from commercial motorcyclists.
Results and discussion: Total of 384 participants all were male (100%). Majority of motorcyclist 262 (63.0%) had moderate knowledge, 118 (30.7%) had good knowledge and 4 (6.3%) had poor knowledge on drug impair riding. Regarding attitude 307 (80%) had positive attitude toward the use of drug impair riding and believe that use of the drug and alcohol during riding can lead to road traffic accident. 160 (41.7%) of participant respond that had ever use drug and alcohol during riding and the reason the motorcyclists gave for use of this drug during riding were to reduce fatigue, pressure from friend, to improve mood and to improve riding.
Conclusion: This study found out that majority of commercial motorcyclists had moderate knowledge on the drug impair riding and consequence associated with it. Therefore, different seminal concerning dangerous effect associated on the use drug during riding should be provided to the motorcyclist in order to increase their knowledge.
