Knowledge and Practice of Insulin Use Among Diabetes Mellitus Patients at Bugando Medical Centre.

Diabetes is recognized as the leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Methodology: A cross sectional study was done in the outpatient clinic from 13 May to 13 July 2019 through a structured interview with 85 diabetes mellitus patients who were self- administering insulin as part of their therapy. Data collected was analyzed descriptively by using SPSS version 20. Results and discussion: Majority of the participants were female (51.8%) and those in age group of 18- 29 (35.3%). Among those who knows the hypoglycemia, these findings were higher compared to study done in Pakistani where by 60% were aware of the home management of hypoglycemia. 45.9% of the respondents uses twice their syringe for injecting insulin during administration, and 52.9% of the respondents do not clean the injection site before administration. Higher education level was significantly associated with understanding of complications associated with DM. Conclusion: this study showed that there was poor practice to so parameters among the respondents
