Aim: This study focused on determining the prevalence of opportunistic infections and its common types among newly diagnosed HIV patients at ART initiation. Methods: This is a retrospective study conducted by obtained data from the files for clients initiated on October 2015 to October 2017 with a minimum sample size of 275 files of patients attended CTC at Bugando medical centre. A checklist was used to collect important information. Data collected were entered, cleaned and analyzed by using SPSS version 20. Study implications: Findings from this study are useful to know burden and the commonest types of OIs among clients at ART initiation in the era of HIV test and treat.
