Abstract:
Introduction: Malaria endemic is very high among developing countries in Sub Saharan African and is the leading cause of death annually among under-five children (1). In Mwanza, Tanzania treatment regimen of malaria and outcome among under-five is of limited information. The current study aims to determine the treatment regimen of malaria and outcome among under-five children in Sengerema District Hospital Mwanza, Tanzania.
Methodology: It was a cross sectional (retrospective) hospital based study, conducted from April 2016 to April 2017 in Sengerema District Hospital, Mwanza, Tanzania. Demographic and clinical data was extracted from patients’ files by the use of standardized data collection tools. Data was entered into Microsoft Excel sheet for cleaning and coding. Analysis was done by using STATA version 13. Percentages/fractions was used to present continuous data while mean (STD)/median (IQR) was used to present categorical data. Chi-square/Fisher’s exact was used to show association between treatment regimen and outcomes of malaria. P value of less than 0.05 was considered as statistically significant.
