Place: Plectranthus barbatus cultivated in several gardens in Nyakahanga ward, Karagwe District leaves and aerial parts of Plectranthus barbatus were collected May 2017, and grinding and extractions conducted at Bugando Multi-Purpose Laboratory in Mwanza region. Methodology: Ethanol extract and aqueous extracts of Plectranthus barbatus were prepared after grinding of leaves and aerial section of Plectranthus barbatus and 10Gram of grinded leaves each 10Gram soaked in different vehicle and different amount of volume, at room temperature for three hours in aqueous extract and extraction with ethanol (90%w/v) over night. Then was filtered and allowed to evaporate. The antibacterial activity was determined by observing minimum inhibitory concentration of both extract toward staphylococcus growth. Results: Aqueous Plectranthus barbatus extract indicated antibacterial activity with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 0.2G/ML and ethanoic extract of Plactranthus barbatus had minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) value of 0.0063GM/ML. Conclusion: Ethanoic extract and aqueous extract of Plectranthus barbatus are useful in the control and prevention of diseases caused by staphylococcus aureus.
