Abstract:
Background: Estimated 80m million women in developing countries had an unintended pregnancy and one in four among them ends to unsafe abortion. Also rapid population growth stills a big challenge in this area. This rapid population growth is due to high fertility rate of over five children born per women as a result of inappropriate family planning use as only 20% of women in sub-Saharan Africa and 34% in south Asia who use family planning with 18 percent use respectively.
Objective: Objective of this study was to determine knowledge, perception, and factor contribute to lack of family planning at Busega district.
Methodology: This was a cross sectional study conducted from August to September 2014 in three randomly sorted wards (Mwamanyiri, Shigara, and kabita) of Busega district included 172 men and women in reproductive age. Participants were enrolled consecutively after consenting and interviewed using standard structured questionnaire to obtain information. Data was coded, entered, cleaned, validated and analyzed tasting IBM SPSS software version 20.
Conclusion and Recommendation: From this study it had been found that knowledge and perception on family planning in Busega district is good. Male and female had nearly the same level of perception. Side effect of family planning use was most factors hinder family planning use. It had been recommended that education should be given especial in possible side effects brought by modern methods and how can be handled.
