Therefore, this study tried to investigate the prevalence of anaemia among pregnant women attending at Makongoro Health centre and its contributing factors. A cross sectional study design was employed at Makongoro health centre, Nyamagana district from May 22 – June 20/2016. A sample of 340 pregnant women who attended ANC during the survey were included in the study. Study participants were selected by systematic random sampling technique. Data were collected using face to face interview, maternal clinic cards and pre-tested structured questionnaire. Collected data were edited, coded and entered to SPSS version 21 for critical analysis.

Abstract:

In Tanzania, all pregnant women are prescribed iron and folate during their ANC visits. However, anaemia is still an issue of health concern among pregnant women in Tanzania. Limited adherence, late ANC booking and lack of education on anaemia and the necessity of haematinics are thought to be major reasons for the low effectiveness of iron supplementation programs.
