Assessment of Functional Level and Utilization of the Constructed Water Infrastractures in Serengeti District

Abstract:
Shortage of safe supply is among the challenges that affect the health status of communities globally. It has been explained that putting much effort in the improvement of water supply will reduce child morbidity and mortality, improve maternal health, reduce the burden of infectious diseases and improve environmental sustainability.
The study design was community-based cross sectional study using sample of 200 people selected randomly from 3 wards Kebanchebancha, Nyansurura and Kyambahi with total of 8 villages. The data were collected using questionnaire and observation to people around the water infrastructures, pupils at schools, workers and clients and health facilities.
Out of 115 who were using infrastructures of AMREF 73.9% reported that the infrastructures yield water frequently and 26.1% reported no frequent yield of water. For GURUMET fund among 46, 87% said yes and 13% said no, HESAWA among 39 users all said their infrastructures yield water frequently. Among 115, 68% said water meet their needs but 40.9% said no for AMREF facilities, of 39 users of HESAWA facilities 97.4% meet the need but 2.6% said they doesn’t and for GURUMET fund among 46 users 73.9% said the meet needs but 26.1% said they do not meet their needs.
AMREF, HESAWA, GRUMET fund did a big work by providing sources of water to the communities and their programs were effective, although due to different reasons some infrastructures have been damaged and not repaired.
