| Summary, etc. | <br/>Abstract:<br/><br/>"Background: Storage practices are significant in maintain the quality of pharmaceutical practices and when not properly practiced, may affect the efficacy and safety of the products. The WHO has specific requirements for compliance of health facilities on proper storage practices such as availability of refrigerators, ACs, ventilation system and sunlight protection. This study aims to determine how medicines are stored and arranged in retail community pharmacies.<br/><br/>Methodology: A facility based cross-sectional study in retail community pharmacies of Nyamagana, Mwanza, done from 1st to 28th April 2024. All pharmacies that were open at the time of data collection, were included in the study and other responses obtained from available pharmaceutical personnel. The data was entered and cleaned in excel then transferred in STATA version 15 for analysis using descriptive statistics and respective statistical tests.<br/><br/>Results: From 105 pharmaceutical personnel, 68(64.74%) and 64(60.95%) responded to have backup supply and storage for light sensitive medicines. While, 55(55.24%), 78(74.29%) and 102(97.14%) reported not to have refrigerators, ACs and proper ventilation, respectively. Based on the number of pharmaceutical personnel, 84.8%, 58.1% and 61% utilized cleanliness, FEFO/FIFO system and keeping medication records, respectively.<br/><br/>Conclusion: The storage and arrangements of medicines by most retail community pharmacies is not satisfactory due to inadequacy or lack of certain equipments. Responsible authorities should monitor the availability of facilities and the proper storage practices. "<br/> |
