| Summary, etc. | Abstract: <br/><br/>Summary: Nyamagana district is one of the seven districts in Mwanza region. The district has hospital which offers primary management of most of diseases in all departments. In my elective field I focused in the department of pediatric and child health. I attended children at the reproductive and child health (RCH) clinics and outpatient department (OPD) where I was screening for acute malnutrition basing on mid upper arm circumference (MUAC among children of 6-60 months. The most important practical experience I have studied on my elective field attachment is knowing how MUAC is useful on screening of acute malnutrition and importance of nutritional education for care givers of the children.<br/><br/>Background: Nyamagana district hospital is one of the seven districts of Mwanza region of Tanzania. It comprises of the northern half of the city of Mwanza. It is bordered to the north and west by Lake Victoria to the south by Ilemela district and to the east by Magu district. According to the 2012 census, the population of Nyamagana municipal council was 363,452. The district hospital which offers primary management of most of the diseases in all departments. <br/><br/>Pediatrics at Nyamagana district hospital is organized in a way that there are two department, one is for outpatients department (OPD) and the other is for reproductive and child health (RCH). Children attending the OPD are sick and are treated as outpatient or the admitted depending on the severity of the diseases. <br/><br/>The top ten diseases seen at the hospital are malaria, acute watery diarrhea (AWD), pneumonia, urinary tract infection (UTI), skin infections, eye infections, anaemia, ear infections and amoebic dysentery children attending reproductive and child health (RCH) are those for weight monitoring done monthly for all under five children. <br/> |
