Summary, etc. | Abstract:

Background: Road traffic accidents have been noted to have a very high fatality and morbidity rate globally, particularly low and middle income countries (LMIC’s)[1].It has been observed that most of the people involved in RTA end up with fractures, head injuries, spinal injuries, amputation, very serious neurovascular injuries and even death. It has been also observed that most of the road traffic accidents involved commercial motorcycle drivers, pedestrians and fast-moving vehicles [2]. However prevalence and contributing factors which contribute to occurrence of road traffic accidents are not well understood due to the limited information.

Therefore, this study helped to assess the prevalence and contributing factors for road traffic accidents among commercial motorcycle drivers at Nyamagana District, and to the best of my scope this research has never been done here at CUHAS-Bugando

Objectives of the study: To access the prevalence of road traffic accident (RTA) and contributing factors among commercial motorcycle drivers at Nyamagana District.

Methodology: Using systematic random sampling, 272 Commercial motorcycle drivers at Nyamagana were asked to participate in the study by signing consent form. Self-administered structured questionnaire containing closed ended questions were used. It was done from the 1st September 2021 to 31st September 2021.Data were analyzed using SPPS version 20; chi-square test and p-value were used for continuous variables. The p-value of 0.05 with 95% confidence interval was employed to measure the power of the study.
|
