520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Abstract:

Peripheral neuropathy is among the complications that occur in cancer patients. Several risk factors are associated with the development of peripheral neuropathy, these include infectious diseases such as HIV infection, hereditary diseases such as diabetes, patients’ factors such as age, exposure to smoking or alcohol and chemotherapeutic agents such as cisplatin and vincristine.

This study aimed to providing information on the prevalence, risk factors and management of peripheral neuropathy among paediatric cancer patients. It was a retrospective cross-sectional study among Paediatrics admitted in the Oncology Unit at Bugando Medical Centre from January 2018 to December 2020 using convenience sampling.

The prevalence of peripheral neuropathy was 2.3% among the 384 patients reviewed. Reducing doses and postponing chemotherapy is among the intervention methods used. However, management of peripheral neuropathy was not well documented in more than half of the diagnosed patients at Bugando Medical Centre.

The present study has shown a significant low prevalence of peripheral neuropathy among paediatric cancer with inadequate records of management.
