Summary, etc. Abstract:<br/><br/>Background: Currently, more than 36.9 million people are living with HIV/AIDS worldwide and around 25.5 million (69%) HIV –positive people are living in sub Saharan Africa. People living with HIV/AIDS not only suffered from disease itself but also bear the psychological pressure, economic difficulties and serious social discrimination, which often lead to serious psychosocial health problems, especially related to depression and suicidal ideation.<br/><br/>Objective: the main study was to determine prevalence of depression and suicidal ideation among people living with HIV/AIDS attending care and treatment clinic (CTC) at Sekou Toure hospital Mwanza, Tanzania.<br/><br/>Methodology: A cross sectional study was conducted among minimum number of 284 HIV adult patients. Questionnaires for socio demographic data and patient health questionnaire (PHQ-9) for depression was used and analyzed using IBM SPSS statistics program. <br/><br/>Results: majority of participant were female 184(64.79%) large population in this study were self- employed 171 (60.21%) with the average income of less than 150,000 Tanzanian shillings per month .prevalence of depression was 13.73% while prevalence of suicide behavior was 4.24%.<br/><br/>Conclusion: in this study there is decrease in prevalence of depression compared to other studies done in the same settings in Mwanza, this might be due to coping skills and proper mental counselling to the patient. Therefore, mental health service should be integrated in the package of CTC clinic services to lower the burden of depression and suicidal ideation.<br/><br/>
