Summary, etc. Abstract: <br/><br/>Background: Obesity is abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that presents a risk to health. The fundamental cause of obesity is an energy imbalance between calories consume and calories expended. Worldwide obesity has more than doubled since 1980. In 2014 more than 1.9 billion adults, 18 years were overweight of these over 600 million were obese. Most of world’s population live in countries where obesity kills more people than underweight. <br/><br/>Aim: To determine knowledge and attitude concerning prevention and management of obesity in Nyamagana district, Mwanza.<br/><br/>Methodology: A cross sectional was conducted in secondary schools in Nyamagana district, Mwanza. A multistage sampling was used in data collection, whereby a total of six schools in Nyamagana district were selected depending on their locality (urban, peripheral and rural) and from each school sixty-four students were recruited in the study by systematic random sampling technique. Data were collected using structured questionnaire and analysed using SPSS version 20. <br/><br/>Results: A total of 380 students were enrolled in this study, 94 (24.7%) were male and 286 (75.3%) were female. Their age ranges from 12 to 21 years where 77.1% and 22.9% had age range of 17-21 years and 12-16 years respectively. Regarding knowledge on obesity, 55.3% of respondents had poor knowledge, 27.7% had moderate knowledge and 16.8% had good knowledge. The finding also shows that very few students (3.4%) with bad attitude toward obesity, 45.6% with good attitude while 51.1% students reported not to know the disease. <br/><br/>Conclusion: In general, knowledge and attitude are not good since than 50% have poor knowledge and attitude on management and prevention of obesity. Ministry of Education should incorporate fully in secondary school curriculum, knowledge of obesity and its ways of prevention and management. <br/>
