AHD in children are still a major problem in low income countries especially in Africa and are among significant cause of morbidity and mortality.

Aim: This study will be conducted to determine the incidence and patterns of childhood acquired heart diseases among children attending cardiac clinic at BMC.

Methods: This study will be a retrospective echocardiography study. Data analysis will be done using STATA version 13

Results: Of the 178 children, 84 children were diagnosed with AHDs. Rheumatic heart disease was the most common AHD seen in 37(42.7%) patients, followed by dilated cardiomyopathy/myocarditis in 26(32.7%) patients and pericardial effusion in 9(10.9%) patients. Less common lesions encountered were Kawasaki disease, infective endocarditis and endomyocardial fibrosis.

Conclusion: Rheumatic heart disease is still the most common AHD in the children in this study.
