Summary, etc. | Abstract: <br/><br/>Background: Hormone contraceptive involve use of estrogen and progestin analogs to prevent pregnancy. Adequate knowledge of hormonal contraceptives among pharmaceutical personnel’s is very important so that they can dispense hormonal contraceptives based on the correct indications and by considering the side effects, contraindications and drug interactions. <br/><br/>Methodology: This was a cross sectional study was conducted using self-administered structured questionnaire involving 90 pharmaceutical personnel’s in drug outlets at Nyamagana district, Mwanza Tanzania. Data were analyzed by using SPSS version 20. <br/><br/>Results: A total of 90 pharmaceutical personnel’s participated in the study. The prevalence of knowledge varied differently according to the level of education, with low knowledge among pharmaceutical assistants compared to pharmaceutical technicians and pharmacist. Pharmacist and pharmacy technicians were found to have good knowledge on hormonal contraceptives on both indications, contraindications, side-effects and drug interactions with other drugs compared to pharmacy assistants who were to have inadequate knowledge. <br/><br/>Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, pharmaceutical assistants they have low knowledge on hormonal contraceptives compared to pharmaceutical technicians and pharmacists. <br/> |
