Summary, etc. | Abstract:<br/><br/>Background: Opportunistic infection are among the major causes of morbidity and mortality among PLWHA particularly the newly diagnosed patients. Early recognition of these conditions is of great importance in order to minimize morbidity and prevent mortality. <br/><br/>Aim: This study focused on determining the prevalence of opportunistic infections and its common types among newly diagnosed HIV patients at ART initiation. <br/><br/>Methods: This is a retrospective study conducted by obtained data from the files for clients initiated on October 2015 to October 2017 with a minimum sample size of 275 files of patients attended CTC at Bugando medical centre. A checklist was used to collect important information. Data collected were entered, cleaned and analyzed by using SPSS version 20.<br/><br/>Study implications: Findings from this study are useful to know burden and the commonest types of OIs among clients at ART initiation in the era of HIV test and treat.<br/> |
