| Summary, etc. | Abstract:<br/><br/>Background: Postnatal care for the mother and infant is a neglected area even for women who give birth in a health facility. The first 24 postpartum and the first postpartum week is the high risk of postpartum deaths, and the risk remains significant until the second week after delivery. Postnatal care services enable the health professionals to identify post-delivery problems, including potential complications and prompt treatment as well as promoting health of the mother and baby<br/><br/>Methods: This was prospective community based cross sectional study conducted from September to October 2018. 200 participants were recruited using random sampling. Data were collected using a pretested questionnaire to obtain information on factors influencing postnatal care attendance among mother in Nyamagana district. Analysis in demographical history, awareness, place and mode of delivery and postnatal attendance in 7 and 2 weeks was done using SPSS version 20.<br/><br/>Results: Of 200 respondents who completed a questionnaire about 72.5% where aware about postnatal care about 72% did not attend postnatal care during 7 and 2 weeks visits during postnatal period the reason for not attending majority reported to not know if the services are being given and among mothers delivery by c/s 50% attended.<br/><br/>Conclusion: Despite awareness majority of mothers lack adequate knowledge on number of visits for postnatal care and services to be given during postnatal care visits.<br/><br/>Recommendation: Health care workers should give adequate knowledge regarding postnatal care and the importance of it also government should put protocols regarding postnatal care education among women. <br/> |
