Summary, etc. Abstract: <br/><br/>Background: Hypertension is a blood pressure of 140/90 mmHg or more, based on at least two readings on separate occasions. Risk factors for hypertension include age, gender (male > female), ethnic origin, diet (especially foods rich in fats, salt [1, 2], stress, sedentary lifestyle, family history [9], diabetes mellitus, pre-existing vascular diseases. [3]. Hypertension can lead to end organ damage affecting brain leading to stroke, heart leading to heart failure, kidneys leading or renal failure. <br/><br/>Objectives: The study was aimed to assess the knowledge on hypertension and its risk factors among adult aged 18 years and above at Manyoni District in Singida region 2018. <br/><br/>Methodology: This was community based descriptive cross-sectional study carried out at Manyoni district in Singida region. The study population included consenting adults aged 18 years and above. Face to face interviews based on questionnaires included age, sex, socioeconomic status, parity, income level, cigarette smoking, physical activities and lifestyle. The information was collected from the study subjects by use of a structured questionnaire in Swahili language. <br/><br/>Results: The number of people included in the study was 340, 325 (95.6%) were aware of hypertension. The common symptoms noted among study subjects were palpitations in 259 (80%); shortness of breath in 172 (53%); dizziness in 151 (46%); six (2%) participants were not aware of any symptom of hypertension. The indicated risk factors were obesity in 245 (75%) stress in 193 (59%) renal disorders in 95 (20%), diabetes mellitus in 86 (25%), cigarette smoking in 80 (24%). Majority of participants 245 (75%) mentioned heart failure as among the complication of hypertension. The other indicated complications were stroke 197 (60%); renal failure 0.3%.<br/><br/>Conclusion: Ninety five percent of participants were aware of hypertension; but only a few know its risk factors, symptoms and complications. <br/><br/>Recommendation: It is necessary to provide education to people since the success of any disease control depends on the community knowledge. <br/>
