Summary, etc. | Abstract: <br/><br/>Background: Diabetes mellitus is a serious public health concern all over the world, as we are still in the global epidemic of this problem and projected in the prevalence of diabetes over the next two decades emphasizes the importance of implementing primary prevention, early detection and imparting educational preventive program. Therefore this study was done to assess the level of knowledge regarding risk factors and symptoms of diabetic mellitus. <br/><br/>Methods: This was a descriptive cross sectional and was involving all the adult individuals at Mahina. The data were collected by interviewing the target population under the guideline of English structure questionnaire. <br/><br/>Results: A total of 160 adults were enrolled during the study, the grade of knowledge on the risk factors was poor because no one who could mention more than three risk factors and the most known risk factors was sedentary lifestyle by 52 participants (32.5%) of the respondents. In case of symptoms the level of knowledge was low because it is only 72 participants (45%) equal to who could mention the symptoms, and the most known symptoms were excessive urination, easy tiredness and excessive thirsty which scored 24.4%, 15% and 12.8% respectively. <br/><br/>Conclusion: From this study the level of knowledge is low regarding risk factors and symptoms of diabetic mellitus. <br/><br/> |
